The Trustees of The Rothschild Archive London request that all researchers wishing to consult original material in our Reading Room must sign a Research Agreement. Completion of this agreement is a condition of permission to consult original material in the Reading Room. The text of the current agreement is given below.
Research Agreement
In consideration of my being permitted access to books and records kept in The Rothschild Archive for the purpose of [insert purpose here]

1. Acknowledge:
a) that the contents of The Rothschild Archive are the property of members of the Rothschild family and/or The Rothschild Archive
b) that the Archive contains copyright material and confidential information belonging to members of the Rothschild family and/or The Rothschild Archive
c) that the Rothschild family and The Rothschild Archive have agreed to give me access to Archives material on the understanding that I will not disclose or publish any Archives material or its contents without the express written agreement of the Archivists of The Rothschild Archive.
2. Agree save where expressly permitted in writing by the Archivists of The Rothschild Archive to do otherwise:
a) to treat all information which comes to my knowledge by reason of my being permitted access to The Rothschild Archive (hereinafter “Rothschild Information”) as confidential
b) not (save in the preparation of works or private notes falling within paragraphs c) or d) below) (I) to disclose, reproduce, publish, or otherwise make any use whatsoever of any Rothschild Information nor (ii) to reproduce, publish or otherwise make any use whatsoever of any text, illustrations, photographs or other works in whatever form to which I am given access in or via the Rothschild Archives (hereinafter “Rothschild Works” which expression shall include extracts from such works)
c) to submit to the Archivists of The Rothschild Archive any work of whatever nature (other than personal notes falling within paragraph d) below) which I prepare (without limitation of time) and which includes and/or which may include Rothschild Information and/or Rothschild Works and not to publish, disclose, or make any use whatsoever of such work unless and until I have the Archivists’ written consent to such acts
d) to supply free of charge to the Archive and within one month of publication a copy of any publication, book or article which contains material based on information supplied by or found in the Archive
e) to keep all private notes made by me which contain and/or reproduce Rothschild Information and/or Rothschild Works safe and confidential and not to disclose or part with possession of such notes to any third party nor to procure, enable, or permit the publication of such notes
f) not to represent to any third party, whether in writing or otherwise, that any work which I produce contains or reproduces Rothschild Information and/or Rothschild Works, nor otherwise to represent that my work is approved by or connected with members of the Rothschild family and/or The Rothschild Archive
g) to treat all materials within The Rothschild Archive with all due care and attention and to respect all reasonable requests made to me by the Archivists of The Rothschild Archive with regard to the storage, treatment and preservation of such materials.
I understand that it is not the intention of members of the Rothschild family and/or The Rothschild Archive unnecessarily to restrict my freedom to make use of information derived from The Rothschild Archive and that permission to use such information will generally be granted where I wish to use or disclose the information for non-commercial and serious academic purposes.
